Online courses are designed for renewal only. Your Provider Card must be current for that disciple in order to take the online course. You will be asked to show your CURRENT card to the instructor. Provider Cards are good for the entire month in which they expire.

Visit Skills Only on the Professional Classes page to see what is available or click here , we have very limited seats available. All Skills Only classes are held at the SFPA on Mission Street. Bring your Online Completion Certificate to class with you. There is no remediation for those who take an online course. If you fail the skills you will be required to pay and attend the full course.

For available dates, prices, and times click here.

Because of the new guidelines we do not offer skills only for ACLS and PALS.

I am a healthcare professional and my provider card has recently expired. Can I take a renewal class?
A current Healthcare Provider card is required to take a renewal course. If your card has expired you will need to take the full course. The American Heart Association will allow you to take a renewal class anytime in the month the card expires, but there are no grace periods beyond the month of expiration. "Recommended Date of Renewal" is equivalant to the expiration date.

My provider card was lost/stolen. How do I get a new copy?
Call the SFPA office and request a duplicate card. The charge for duplicate cards is $10/card for AHA classes. All other cards, NAEMT, PEPP, etc. are $30/card. You must pay for the card prior to receiving the duplicate card.

What is the difference between BTLS and PHTLS?
Both courses offer similar information about prehospital management of trauma using different methods of instruction. Make sure you check with your local EMS Agency to confirm which trauma course you may be required to be certified in.

When does my card actually expire, all that is listed is a month of expiration?
Your card expires on the last day of the month listed as the "Recommended Renewal Date". There is no grace period beyond the last day of the month in which your card expires.

My friend and I are taking the class together. Can we share a book?
No, the Heart Association requires that each student attending a class have their own textbook.

Should I take a Public class?
We offer training classes in first aid and CPR to members of the public. Generally speaking a member of the public is not a trained health care provider.

What is a Professional class?
A professional is someone who is a trained health care provider, such as an EMT, paramedic, nurse, respiratory therapist, dentist or physician. These professionals are required to maintain certification in health care provider level CPR (also known as professional rescuer CPR), ACLS, PALS or PHTLS as a requirement of employment.

I am required to take a CPR class. Which CPR should I take?
Generally speaking trained, certified or licensed health care providers are required to complete health care provider (HCP) level CPR. HCP CPR is also known as CPR for PRofessional Rescuers, or Professional Rescuer CPR.

If you do not fit the above description, generally a Heartsaver class will be appropriate for your needs.

If I fail my class what happens?
If you fail your class you are allowed to remediate once. Talk with the instructor about what you need to do. According the the American Heart Association Program Administration Manual people must remediate within 30 days of the original course. If you do not remediate within 30 days you are required to take a full course.

Can I split a 2 day course among different session? I can't attend both days of a 2 day course and want to know if I can take day 1 the first time and during the next scheduled class attend day 2.
No, you must attend both days you register for, because of the teaching process we can't split the days apart and have you attend different sessions.
