Facing the Growing Epidemic of Asthma - Best Practices in Treatment and EMS-Base Prevention

Improving assessment and treatment through expansion of knowledge of pathophysiology and current science related to the disease. Additionally,
the lecture will explore SF unique EMS based asthma mitigation project.

The presentation will cover improvised techniques for dealing with trauma in remote locations and in urban environments during a disaster. It will touch upon techniques for improvised cpr masks, crichothyroidotomy, splinting, closing wounds and wound dressing, draining a tension pneumorhorax, using safety pins to open an airway, and much more.

Speaker: Eric Weiss, MD, is an Associate Professor of Surgery, Division of Emergency Medicine at Stanford University, as well as the Medical Director for San Mateo County EMS Agency. Dr. Weiss is a knowledgeable speaker who has written several books on Wilderness Medicine and is considered to be an international expert in the field.
