to incorporate 12-Lead ECG interpretation, assessment and recognition of

Cardiac Life Support
Learn to assess and treat patients experiencing an acute myocardial infarction, ischemic stroke, and sudden cardiac arrest. We are utilizing the new guidelines and teaching program, with more hands-on practice time than before. ACLS Experienced Provider (ACLS-EP)

Description: The ACLS EP course is designed
to provide clinically proficient healthcare practitioners (MD/DO, CCRN,
EMT-P’s, etc) who are comfortable performing resuscitation, with a
case-based ACLS renewal course that allows them to identify and treat special
circumstance resuscitations not covered in the basic ACLS provider course.
Participants renew their ACLS certification in the morning, then spend the
afternoon covering Electrolyte Abnormalities, Environmental Emergencies,
Cardiovascular/Pulmonary Causes and Toxicologic Emergencies. This course
is recommended for health care professionals who have held ACLS certification
for at least 4 or more years.

Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS)

Course Description: AMLS takes a practical approach to assissing and treating adult medical emergencies. In most certification programs, a significante amount of time and effort is spend on drilling students in the knowledge of cardiac and respiratory emergencies. However, any field provider realizes that these types of emergencies are vastly outnumbered by the myriad of medical complaints encountered in the field. AMLS focuses on abdominal and chest pain, altered mental status, shock, and dyspnea etiologies. Emphasis is place on history taking and te physical examination skills necessary to obtain critical information from vaque medical complaints. Satisfies many requirements for NREMT recertificatioin process.

Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS)

Basic Life Support - Healthcare Provider
BLS-HCP for Healthcare Providers course is designed to review and evaluate the HCP CPR skills to aid victims of all ages, foreign body airway obstructions, AED use, and airway ventilation via barrier devices. This course includes CPR for Adult, Children, and Infants and includes AED. BLS-HCP is relevant for those who provide health care to patients in both the hospital and pre-hospital environments.The California Board of Nursing will not accept CPR and BLS courses for CE credit. EMS Classes
ALS for EMT
View classes or Register Online for ALS for EMTThis intensive 1 day workshop will prepare the EMT-1 to assist paramedics and hospital staff in the application of variety of diagnostic and therapeutic devices, including:
- 12-lead Electrocardiograms
- Nebulized medications
- Wave form capnography
- Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP)
- Glucose monitoring
- Management of the inserted endotracheal tube and other advanced airways
Brief but informative presentations will be followed by hands-on training for each device.
While not a certification course, participants who successfully complete the workshop will receive a continuing education certificate attesting to their participation.
Emergency Medical Technician Refresher Program (EMT Refresher)

This course is designed for those who have a current EMT-1 certificate and
need to renew.
This short, intensive program will provide the necessary 24 hours of continuing
education, as well the opportunity to complete the skills verification form,
for EMT-1 state recertification. EMTs who have already completed their CE
requirement may challenge the skills verification testing. Bonus: Meets
NREMT refresher guidelines for EMT-1! Skills verification is available on
last day.

This program fulfills the mandatory 48 hour refresher component of the National
Registry Paramedic registration. Instruction will be provided in both lecture
and workshop format. As part of the course, participants will recertify
both ACLS and BLS certifications. You must have online access prior to participating
in this course; computers are available at the SFPA for your use if needed.
Class Schedule: Feb 2, 3, 15, and 16 To receive the 48 hours you must attend all 4 days of this class.

WFR/WEMT trains you to understand and avoid wilderness hazards and cope
with emergencies in wilderness or disaster situations. You learn how to
do emergency care with whatever you have on hand or can improvise, including
advanced skills such as reducing dislocations. We use vivid slides and interactive
teaching methods to bring the topics to life. Skills practice is intensive.
Our instructors work with you individually and in small groups. Realistic
simulated accidents help you put your skills together and develop your leadership
abilities.
Pediatric Care
This AHA-sponsored Pediatric Advanced LIfe Support course is designed to review, organize, and prioritize the skills and didactic informaiton necessary to manage crictical pediatric emergencies, including the per-arrest and full arrest pediatric patient. Course Description: Intubation is a difficult skill to
master and retain. In today's challenging environment the paramedic may
have few, if any opportunities to perform this critical task annually. The
SFPA is proud to present Dr. Richard Levitan, best known for the AirwayCam®
video series, who will lead an intensive workshop in advanced airway management.
Using a combination of academics and intensive practice sessions on realistic
simulators, Dr. Levitan will help refine your technique and approach to
good airway control. Seating will be limited for this rare event –-
sign up soon! Plans for an additional half-day cadaver practice session
are in the works.

to register for the Cadaver Airway Workshop. This session is designed to
give you the opportunity to practice the skills learned in the Advanced
Airway Management Workshop. Low body-to-participant and high instructor
ratios will provide a significant amount of hands-on training time for learners
in the class. This class will meet at the Medical Examiners office in San
Francisco.
